Name: Antonio Esteban Hernández Carriedo
Nicknames: Tonio
Age: 27
Date of Birth: February 12th
Gender: Male
Occupation: Icon Newscaster
Heritage: Seahorse Merman
Seed Rank: Heavy Seed
Birthplace: Barcelona, Spain
Appearance: Antonio is a rather..averagely handsome man, despite the immense attention he recieves. He’s not too tall, but just tall enough at 5’9; a little too on the lean side, as far as weight goes, from how much he swims on a daily basis. His brown hair is always a bit unkept in appearance, and always damp. Its not that he doesn’t try to keep it looking well groomed.. just that those brown locks have always been naturally wavy and refuse to be combed out straight. Every inch of his skin is perfectly tanned, despite the few criss-crossing scars that are scattered across his body. His eyes are a vibrant seaweed green.
Distinguishing Features: His ears have numerous silver piercings, that match the silver cross he always wears.
Sexual Orientation: (guiltily) Homosexual
Likes:
- Tomatoes - While Antonio is mostly a carnivore as many sea creatures are, he absolutely loves tomatoes. He prefers them natural, uncooked, but he’ll eat almost anything that has tomatoes in the dish.
- Sunshine - Seeing as how he’s a bit scared of the dark when he’s not in the water, he takes full advantage of the sunshine; staying in it as long as possible unless there’s something else he absolutely has to do.
- Affection - He has a very loving and needy sort of personality. He needs and wants physical affection at all times, regardless of who it is. Rather it be just leaning against someone or cuddling up with them.
- Shellfish - The main part of his diet, in or out of water. He’ll eat plenty of other types of food, no problem. But this is his absolute favorite since it eating and enjoying it comes so natural to him.
- Children - He wants them more than anything in the whole world. Being a heavy seed though, and a merman at that, the chances of him ever actually having one are one in a million.
- Sleeping - Regardless of work or other priorities and engagements.. Antonio always takes an hour long siesta from 2PM to 3PM each day. And he always enjoys some company. Heaven help he who wakes him, though.
- Sex - Antonio has a bit of a reputation in the zuman community. The man’s nearly considered a nymphomaniac and is all but in love with sex and the passion that drives it. While he may have numerous sexual partners, he only takes one mate each season of the year.
Dislikes:
- The dark - While its not an entire phobia, he is still quite unnerved and even frightened by the dark. He keeps a few lights on inside all the time and the patios well lit as well.
- Drinking Too Much - While drinking, Antonio becomes quite sentimental and emotional. However, once he has had enough to be completely drunk, he practically turns into a monster.
- Dry Skin - Antonio can’t stand his skin getting dry when he’s out of water. Not only is it horribly uncomfortable, but it can be quite painful too. Its not only on himself though; he always has moisturizers and lotions on hand to offer to those whose skin offends him with its dryness.
- Dry Land - Or rather, being stranded on dry land without any significant bodies of water near by. It makes him nervous, since if he were to change without water around, there’s a fair chance it could prove fatal.
- The Cold - This goes hand and hand with his fear of the dark and his love of the sun. He was raised in warm, sunshiney weather. He bundles up like he’s in Antarctica if the weather drops below 75.
Interests/Hobbies:
- Religion -He is extremely religious. The silver cross around his neck has not been removed since the day he received it as a child. Though..he often plays with it- either with his hands, or his mouth- whenever he’s caught up in deep thought. He prays every night before he goes to sleep, every morning when he awakens and before each meal. Its the main reason why he feels so guilty, if not completely ashamed to ever discuss his sexuality.
- Dancing - Antonio has a dancer’s soul and the body to match. He frequents nightclubs and formal events alike, only for the dancing. If there’s any music around, regardless of where he might be or what he might have been doing; he’ll start swaying and moving to the beat and attempt to multitask.
- Swimming – Being a creature of the water, this is Antonio’s most favorite thing to do. Unless he absolutely has to be at work, among other daily things.. He can always be found down at the beach, swimming about all along the coast. While he remains in human form while still in the ‘safe to swim’ zone most people enjoy.. Whenever he drifts out past that zone, away from prying eyes, he shifts into something a lot more natural, to enjoy the watery environment to its fullest.
Aspirations:
- More than anything in the world, Antonio wants to have a family. He’s not much of a romantic; he doesn’t believe much in true love or any of the fairy tale drabble. But he does still wish for a family. To find a suitable mate, one he enjoys being with and that is actually capable of breeding him properly, and to finally settle down and have a family with them. With as many children as physically possible.
- As much as he enjoys living such a lavish lifestyle as a regional ‘celebrity’ as his station’s leading anchorman and field reporter.. He can’t help but want even more. And he’s working his way to it with every “Time With Tonio” special he squeezes out of the managers. One day, it will be its own shown entirely if Antonio gets his way. And he always does.
- While it may be more than a little farfetched and.. downright crazy to humans—even to most zumans.. Antonio often dreams of the polar ice caps melting and flooding the entire continent with high levels of luke-warm salt water. The whole world as his own personal swimming pool. How nice would that be?
Fears:
- One of Antonio’s greatest fears is being alone, for whatever reason and in all definitions of the word. Rather than simply being alone in the place, feeling alone, or the worst of all; being left all alone. This is easily his main motivation for being so clingy and affectionate to people.
- Antonio is horribly scared of losing himself completely to the ‘inner demon’ he harbors. He doesn’t want to be someone that people don’t like- or worse, someone that others around him fear. He tries his best to keep that side of him in check, but it occasionally gets the best of him.. He’s terrified that one day, a time will come when he can’t get himself back under control and will really hurt someone he loves.
- Large dogs. Despite how he has always wanted to have a pet bull one day, despite living along the beach; large dogs make him quite nervous and he always does his best to avoid them if at all possible. It surprisingly has nothing to do with his soul; just a run of the mill unfortunate incident as a child.
Personality: Antonio is a very cheerful, simple man despite his celebrity lifestyle. He smiles easily, laughs easily and usually very easily amused; taking great joy in the little things in life. He’s always been one to appreciate such things; a nice day, a good meal, hearing from an old friend. All these things that people often take for granted, he’s always thankful for, remembering to pray every day for such a content, simple life to continue on for as long as it could. It doesn’t take much to keep him in this happy state either; usually just some tomatoes, fresh air, sunlight and someone to cuddle.
He’s very affectionate and seems to have no qualms with personal space; he’ll just step right up and give you a hug, rather you want it or not. Considering the people he likes to hug the most, it is usually very, very unwanted. To most people’s surprise for his carefree, affectionate nature.. Antonio gets embarrassed quite easily if one knows how to go about it. Though it’s obvious to those who know him well, when he becomes embarrassed, he’ll begin to speak in Spanish and Spanish alone. To the point of pretending he doesn’t even know English or any other language
Antonio can easily be considered one of the most lively and vibrant of people you could ever meet. Aside from his designated siesta time, he’s almost always active. With his boundless energy, he loves playing around and goofing off, especially with his closest friends and coworkers at the station. While none of them approve of his antic most of the time, they do their best to humor him without treading into the area of misconduct. Antonio doesn’t seem to quite understand this; at least, not when it’s convenient for him. Despite other’s protests, it is not at all uncommon for him to try and drag someone, even a total stranger, into the fun and games too.
He can be rather oblivious to situations, but unlike others who can’t read the atmosphere at all; he simply chooses not to. Unless it’s going to have a large, personal impact on himself or those he really cares about, he typically considers it to be none of his business and just keeps out of most matters. This makes him seem a bit insensitive or uncaring to others sometimes, but he truly does worry about those close to him a lot. He just would rather not get involved in drama unless he absolutely has to. It’d only serve to bring him down and put him into a foul mood. Which isn’t good for anyone. Despite this, he truly is a bit oblivious to certain things; such as the way he words things. English was not his first learned language thanks again, to his mother; she wouldn’t even allow him to learn it until the age of ten. By that point, however, he didn’t have much interest in learning at all, even though he knew not many could understand him otherwise. Due to his late learning, his English isn’t exactly the best. He still gets some words mixed up and phrases some things awkwardly, without even realizing how they sound to others.
Like one could expect from such a happy fellow.. Antonio is also rather sensitive. Often leading him to get his feelings hurt surprisingly easily by others. He doesn’t always show it, but if one watches closely, the subtle hints of his feelings being hurt can be easily read in his expression and actions. Considering how he often gets very lonely unless in the company of someone, if he’s pushed away or left behind, he can become very gloomy and down. Almost to the point of complete and total depression. Though he gets over it fairly quickly once someone comes to cheer him up, there’s always that bit of nagging in the back of his mind that makes him worry he’ll wind up lonely again.
Contradicting how much he loves to goof off and have fun with his friends, Antonio is surprisingly a hard worker. If he thinks it’s needed, he’ll work like a dog to get the job done and get it done right; the first time. When he’s allowed to, at least. There’s no such thing as play-time while there’s still work to be done by him. Unless of course.. you’re just so cute, he can’t help but get distracted. On that point, he loves cute things, that being one of the only things to distract him from work. If there’s something incredibly cute around, Antonio won’t be far behind, fawning over and cooing at it.
And though most always think of him as the sunny, affectionate Spaniard they all know.. He does have a darker side. Not many have had the misfortune of seeing him in such a state, considering his personality has become more docile and fun-loving over time. Back in the day, though, when he was younger and more adventurous, Antonio had quite a nasty.. violent temper. One of the main reasons he dislikes talking of his past; he expects most people to hate him for how cruel he used to be. And though he seems to be nearly a whole different person in current times.. Those who think that are sadly mistaken. Just as he became a happier, kinder person over time.. He’s slowly relapsing back towards his former self. Once he gets upset enough, his entire personality and presence darkens severely in contrast with his normally bright, happy demeanor. Like this, he surprisingly cruel, forceful and quite violent. More often than not, Antonio needs an outlet for all his violent urges.. Though he’d hate to hurt anyone- especially if they’re very dear to his heart- he does have his violent, impulsive times, in which no one can guess what he might do next. And this scares him more than anything else.
Family:
- Remei Carriedo Zapatero [Mother; angelfish mermaid]
- Alejandro Hernández García [Father; pipefish merman]
Brief History: Antonio was born in Barcelona, Spain, on a sunny day deep beneath the waves of the Mediterranean Sea. Despite the lovely weather and the typically joyous occasion of the birth of a child.. There are many reasons Antonio does not celebrate his birthday. The first of this long list, was the fact that his father didn’t survive the birthing process; he didn’t even live long enough to hold his and his wife’s new child. Remei was completely and utterly distraught with the passing of her husband the very same moment her son came into the world. Something in the woman just broke, and has never been able to heal all this time. Antonio was left to fend for himself the first few months of his life; distant relatives and family friends stopping by every now and then in order to make sure he was still alive. Their only purpose for doing so, however, was to attempt to worm their way into Remei’s good graces, hoping for a chance to breed with her once she was finished mourning. All of these attempts were for naught, though. Mermen tend to grow more quickly than other zumans. So Remei waited patiently for about 8 years, until hers and Alejandro’s son had begun to hit sexual maturity; when other zuman would reach it around 13 or so.
Once ‘the talk’, had occurred..
Remei made young Antonio her new mate.
He looked so much like his father; he even had the same soul species as him. The same green eyes, the same wavy, rebellious brown hair.. The same brilliant red tail and fins. They were both merfolk, and the only close person in one another’s lives. So it was the most reasonable choice, wasn’t it? If they hadn’t, then the chances of the merfolk line dying out completely dramatically increased. That justified it, didn’t it? She loved her husband so much, and here, he had given her the perfect replacement; it’s what he wanted her to do, right?
Regardless of the answers to these questions, and regardless of the distance her actions put between them and their former friends and family.. Remei continued to make her son her mate every season for the next sixteen years of his life. Despite this, Antonio had a relatively normal life growing up. He went to one of the best private schools in the city, attended church with his mother every Sunday and religious holiday. Despite how lessons learned from there and the bible insisted it was a sin.. His mother continued to give him nearly every excuse in the book, reassuring him that is was perfectly acceptable by God and that God even wanted them to be together to ensure the survival of their species.
Being the good, religious boy he was.. Antonio continued to buy every one of Remei’s justifications, despite his growing reluctance to be so close to her. He did his best to ignore these feelings and that unhappy, sometimes even frightened voice in the back of his head, to keep his mother happy. She was the only person in his rather isolated life that he could rely on; and he was so worried that they day he tried to tell her no, might be the day he’s left entirely alone in the world.
Despite their abundance of attempts to breed properly, nothing ever came of it. When Antonio was 16, nearing the end of his high school years, he had finally had enough of it. He wanted to be free to choose his own mates each season, go on dates and just hang out like a normal teenage boy for once in his life. Remei dismissed it as just a phase, before beginning their usual ‘courtship’ ritual that came just before breeding. Though nervous of taking a stand to his mother, Antonio was firm in telling her he didn’t want to be her mate anymore, that he wanted his own life and wanted their relationship to only mother and son for the first time in their entire lives. He said no. She said yes and bred him anyway after fighting to force him to submit.
After that incident, Antonio became a much quieter person through the final half of his last year of high school. He didn’t attempt to spend time with his friends outside of school anymore, or do much of anything besides go straight home to Remei. Despite the streak of reclusiveness, Antonio had begun to develop a frightening temper from all the pent up resentment, hurt and anger that had been building over his entire life. He could go from sunny to violently lashing out over the smallest thing in three seconds flat. The few friends that hadn’t been driven away by him avoiding them, were eventually driven away by this unpredictable temper.
To his mother’s delight and his near horror, as his graduation drew nearer and nearer, Antonio began to show. A month before he would have graduated, Remei pulled him from school, so ensure he finished out the pregnancy offshore as he should. Antonio never got his high school diploma; and a devastating miscarriage ensured he never got a child either. After a few months of so-called ‘recovery’, Remei got them settled back into their usual routine. This went on for another eight years, accompanied by another two miscarriages throughout it.
When he was 23, he managed to carry one to near full term; and so he received a fragile, two month premature son. Against Remei’s wishes, he named him Hermenegildo; an unusual name that means “complete sacrifice”. However, being born two months early didn’t help an infant with doubled-up genetic flaws to survive. A few, short weeks later, the child passed away, sending Antonio to slump back to the depression he had only barely begun to crawl out of.
For once in her life, Remei felt concerned about Antonio’s mental and emotional state, and perhaps even a bit guilty. For the next few months, Remei waited on him hand and foot, making sure he had everything and anything he wanted. Antonio decided not to let such an opportunity go.. And to his own surprise, when he asked to be free to live his own life, away from her, Remei finally consented. Rather she finally decided to act like a mother or she was merely acting out of guilt, he didn’t care. She helped him to find a new home; far from Barcelona, and even helped to pay for many of his expenses until he could survive on his own as he slowly got used to being independent.
Now, he’s quite a successful anchorman for the city’s most watched news network, and a celebrity in his own right. Despite being a heavy seed, given his past, Antonio is far from picky on whom he sleeps and breeds with. Many may just call him a whore or something similar now; he only refers to himself as someone enjoying life for the first time.

The day was finally here! And Spain was just as excited as he always got over such things. Though in the past, they never really got along before.. Mostly Spain’s fault.. In more recent times, the two had been working hard to try and reestablish a good, friendly relationship with each-other. Which absolutely thrilled the tomato-loving brunette every time it was brought up. Yes; The Netherlands was on his way over for another visit to Spain’s home. Or rather.. A “cultural experience”, as the blonde always insisted it be referred as. Either way, Spain was simply happy to have company over once more.
As one would expect from him.. Antonio was rushing around his house, doing some last minute tidying up and cleaning up after Alfonso (who he put out in the pasture for the day) here and there. Despite how excited and anxious he’d been over the visit for the past week or so, he had spent most of his time preparing “Antonio’s Tour-guide to Antonio”; a cheesily made pamphlet about his home and himself. Fully expecting The Netherlands to actually need such a thing. Thus, he now had to run around and clean his home at the very last second.
“Ay mi.. It is all clean now finally~!” The Spaniard chuckled under his breath, using a cool washcloth to dab at the sweat on his forehead. Sparing a moment to glance at the time, he jumped when he realized that his friend’s plane would be arriving at the airport very shortly. “I-I need to hurry..” He mumbled, frantically pulling his dirtied work shirt off over his head before fumbling with the buttons of one of his, nicer, dress shirts. Once he he was fully dressed once more and dashed out of his home; grabbing his keys and a poster board as he passed the kitchen.
It was only a short drive, thankfully; he’d only barely made it as the passengers of the scheduled plane began to exit. Only.. He didn’t see The Netherlands anywhere. This is what mi signo is for~! Spain though, smiling happily as he raised the poster he had brought with him up into the air. “Welcome! Hollanda!” was spelled in a cursive, red marker; little red and green tomatoes dotting the sign here and there with a big, poorly drawn, yellow sun in one corner. “He can’t miss it, si?” He chuckled to himself.)
